The Kunstmatrix is internet portal and software. It's purpose is to facilitate the realistical and aesthetical presentation of art in a three-dimensional, virtual space. With 3d-technologies communication via the internet has grown up. After email and pictures it is today possible to show three-dimensional objects and interact with virtual space. Since quiet a while 3d-technology has left its beginnings of military-applications or university-research and established itself with computer games. With internet-applications like "second-life" the concept of three-dimensional space in the internet became known to a wider public and is now used by the Kunstmatrix as a basis for architecturally and aesthetically sophisticated "artworld".

Architecture as a key to art

In 2006 two students of architecture at the TU Berlin recognized the potential of "virtual architecture" as a separate field of architecture beyond being just a background for computer games or movies. Enthusiastic about the rapid development in digital graphics, high-speed internet and computing power they created a concept to use all of this for the most difficult of subjects: art.

The special nature of art demanded a room as context - but the internet so far denied this. Endless rows of thumbnails tortured visitors. And if you choose a picture, it would become an equally scale-less full-screen image. Not quiet what art is all about ...

The company Kunstmatrix

The business plan of the Kunstmatrix was a winner in a start-up competition of the german Ministry of Commerce and was supported by the EXIST-program.

The products of the Kunstmatrix are essentially virtual exhibition rooms.
